Our top 5 phones of 2018

Here we cover our list of top 10 phones of 2018 focusing on features and price for the average user. We've made sure to add affordable options too.

The winner for Budget phone is Redmi Note 5A
The winner for premium phone is Samsung Galaxy S9

Below we explain in more detail what and why.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

This is a large feature rich phone complete with stylus, the premise of it is bridging the gap between phone and tablet whilst not being overly huge, this phone is great for those with not the greatest vision or simply someone who likes to watch videos on their phone. It features a huge battery with s pen (Which doubles as a remote for taking photos) The downside of this however is that it's size does make it a bit more bulky in your pocket and hand as well as being a fair bit pricey and considering the little changes from the note 8.

Huawei P20 Pro

Huawei has been overlooked being not one of the big western brands however they are almost number 1 when it comes to innovation in their phones, from the brilliantly crisp camera with 5x hybrid zoom, the image stabilisation, 960fps super slow motion, the 4,000mAh battery and scrisp screen they truely are at the top of the game with their feature packed phones. A huge downside is the huge price-tag attached to it...the only upside is the sheer features you get for the price

Apple iPhone X

Apple has always been synonamous with style and the iPhone X is no different, it is stylish but with it's downsides, now in the efforts of transparency we're not big apple fans but there has been a few issues with the iPhone X such as it not charging when the screen is off (Which has been fixed through update) and how they throught having the etched out area at the speaker at the top was a better idea than just cutting the screen off before the speaker. However to it's credit it does have a high resolution vibrant sharp screen, it is a fast phone with a great camera however for the cost we can't give it our top spot

Google Pixel 2 XL

A feature packed phone from google, has an incredible resolution, the durable gorilla glass, image stabiiliisation, 4k video capture on the rear camera and 1080p on the front packing the snappy Qualcomm snapdragon 835 processor it is a fast phone..The downside however is you are paying a large amount on what could be called a glorified camera. That isn't to say that the phones other aspects aren't brilliant - they are good, it's just their focus and innovation seems to be revolving around camera quality over other features.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Now to the more reasonable priced S9, it has a fair few features such as biometric security, brilliant display and feel, improved speakers from the S8. Not to forget the camera, brilliant exposure and colour captured I'd even say better than the iphone X and pixel 2 which says something. The downside however is it's not changed that much from the s8 and the battery life is average.

Redmi Note 5A

Now not technically a 2018 phone we wanted to add an affordable phone to the bunch, this is my personal daily driver and for good reason, it has an incredible battery life, whilst the hardware isn't exceptional by any standard it has all the features you could really need, the camera is good quality though not even close to any of the other phones mentioned however at more than half the price that's to be expected. The phone's design is sleek and smooth with seemingly fluid movement in use. The downside however is it doesn't have half the features of the other phone, this could marketed as "The most OK phone" there is nothing inheritly bad about it but nothing stands out good about it other than the price, this nabbed the top place purely because it's amazing price point for it's features size.
